5.0 Failure is Not An Option

      Pros:

A must read of early NASA with their life and death problems.

      Cons:

      None

      Comments:

This wonderful book is the story of Gene Kranz's time with NASA from the early Mercury space flights until the Apollo 17 flight. It is a truly wonderful book with a real time look behind the scenes of NASA during its beginning until he retired 20 years later.

Gene was played by actor Ed Harris in the movie Apollo 13. If you want to know all the true problems that were overcome by people who never had to cope with life and death situations, this is the book to have. What were nearly flawless missions to the Moon were, in fact, a series of near death misses that the public never knew of - from the Apollo One fire that cost three astronauts their lives to Kranz's leadership during the Apollo 11 Moon landing with Neil Armstrong. You get it all here in this super book. It's a real must-read for all who want to know his telling of the truth.

Gene ended up as Flight Director of the Apollo 13 mission. He won the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work in bringing home the crew of that damaged spacecraft.

I won this book as a weekly prize on this site in Aug '07. Thank you AstronomyRatings for giving me this superb book!
