Seeing In The Dark
Pros:Enjoyable to read; Insights into amateur contributions; Very inspirational.
Cons:None
Comments:I ordered this book from my book club and didn't have any idea on what to expect form the author, Timothy Ferris. I must say that I was pleasantly pleased by what I read. The book starts out like a novelete, with the author time warping backwards to his experiences as a youth, discovering the wonders of the night sky, and placing you there with him as his knowledge and experiences mature into a life long pursuit of making sense of the universe that surrounds us.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Then, you're off to visit and talk with other amateur astronomers who burn a lot of midnight oil surveying the night sky and contributing countless hours of personal time, helping professional astronomers who may not have the time, money or inclination to do all of the needed research themselves. This endeavor in itself should let the average amateur know that he is not alone in his pursuits. The remainder of the book has a nice glossary, seasonal star charts, and other useful info.
All in all, this is an enjoyable read and an inspiration to all amateur astronomers, no matter what their equipment may be.Sort by
