Skywatcher 70/500 Refractor
Pros:Small and lightweight, Good build quality, Inexpensive
Cons:Focuser is very basic, 45° diagonal only
Comments:This is a great starter scope with many hours of fun for the newborn astronomer. I got this in a bundle with an AZ-3 mount, 25mm, 10mm eyepieces, a 45° diagonal, and a red dot finder. For the price paid it's well worth the money. The tube is small enough to pack down in a backpack without any problem for outdoor expeditions even on bicycle.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Being a 70mm (2.75") the aperture is very good for the Moon, Jupiter and other bigger objects, as well as for sky-browsing and watching constellations using the 25mm eyepiece.
If you are to purchase a first scope for your kid and want a serious instrument instead of bad quality supermarket scopes, this is not a bad start at all!Sort by
