Comments:This book is just one of many in Patrick Moore's "Practical Astronomy" series. Author Stephen Tonkin has assembled an assortment of different essays from different writers discussing the many virtues and uses of small telescopes ranging in size from 2.5" to 5" in diameter. All three types of scopes - refractor, reflector, and catadioptric - are discussed and examined as to their benefits and improvements. The last topic in the book deals with small radio telescope observations.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The book seems to be geared toward beginners, but is an interesting read nonetheless. Owners of scopes like Orion's Short Tube 80 and Celestron's C5+ will find some notable insights into these models, and suggestions on improvement and accessories. There is also a section on deep sky observations with small scopes and what is in the realm of possibility when using them.
Even if you're an intermediate or advanced amateur astronomer, I think you will find this book both nostalgic and an enjoyable read.Sort by
