Stellarvue Widefield 30mm 2inch eyepiece
Pros:Nice black background, not too pricey on the used market.
Cons:A tad heavy.
Comments:On the night of 8/18/07 I went to a friend's house to compare 2 inch eyepieces (my GSO SV 30mm wide view eyepiece with his Stellarvue widefield 30mm eyepiece). Physically, there was not much difference although his was a bit heavier than mine.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The Stellarvue was excellent to about 70 to 75% before dropping off, but the balance was unfortunately better than my GSO. The background was black and the stars were pinpoint. Jupiter was clear although it was a bit windy all night. This was using my 8" f/10 LX-90 SCT.
The stats are: FOV 68 degrees (although I have no way to check that), eye relief 20mm, 5 glass elements, all lenses are multicoated, and weight is approximately 35 oz. I was impressed as I thought Stellarvue only made telescopes. This eyepiece, like the GSO, is threaded for 48mm filters although we did not use any. I don't know the exact price new but he bought this used for around $70 with caps and box only.Sort by
