Takahaski ED-ED 5mm
Pros:Everything - quality, viewing, barlowing, great in most scopes, best planetary EP.
Cons:Expensive, hard to find in the used market.
Comments:The most recent eyepiece I tried and compared in a f/5 Newtonian and a f/10 SCT was the 5mm Tak ED EP. What an incredible eyepiece! It is costly at almost $180 new, but you really get what you pay for in this wonderful eyepiece.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
In viewing both the Moon and Mars, the skies were very dark and images were sharp right to the edge. That is not bad considering this is an EP with only a 52 degree FOV. The color on Mars was wonderful and sharp and the ice caps were also clearly seen.
In both scopes, the stars were pinpoint as the scope moved from one view to another. This is without a doubt a top quality planetary eyepiece. On the down side, the eye relief is only about 10mm. This is workable considering the great views but a tad short for people wearing eyeglasses. This eyepiece barlowed superbly in my Orion Shorty + barlow and even better in a Televue 2.5x barlow. This is an exceptional eyepiece and one of the best I've seen Mars in. If you can afford and find this EP on the used market, get it.Sort by
