Manufacturer Description

Your telescope's focuser is used to compensate for your near- or far-sightedness; DIOPTRX compensates for your astigmatism. These units attach and lock onto the tops of over 20 long eye-relief Tele Vue eyepieces to achieve the sharpest full-field viewing possible.

DIOPTRX models are available in ¼ to 3½ diopter (¼ steps from ¼ to 2½ diopters, then ½ diopter steps to 3½-diopters), and are rotatable for tuning to the best orientation. A series of engraved letters on the barrel helps to monitor orientation. Simply choose the DIOPTRX model that matches your eyeglass prescription for astigmatism. All lenses are multi-coated glass in anodized aluminum housings with rubber eyeguards.

Benefits of using Dioptrx over eyeglasses

  1. You're more likely to see a sharper, higher contrast image, because:
    1. The Dioptrx is always completely aligned to the eyepiece optics, eliminating aberrations from a decentered mismatch of eyeglass power and astigmatic axis.
    2. Dioptrx can be rotated to exactly compensate for the astigmatic axis angle in real time, since both head angle and age can vary your eyesight astigmatic angle.
    3. Dioptrx likely has better multi-coatings than eyeglasses, and certainly is better in transmission and reflection reduction than uncoated eyeglass.
    4. Dioptrx is more likely to be cleaner than eyeglasses, which may have scratches and smudges from constant use and wear and tear.
    5. Dioptrx allows seeing your normal maximum contrast that eyeglasses can diminish (remove your eyeglasses and see how contrast improves in normal vision).
  2. You're more likely to see the full field in 100° Ethos eyepieces because your eyeglasses are more limiting in "effective eye-relief".

5.0 A real asset for those of us with astigmatism

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I was having trouble viewing with my eyeglasses, but without them it was totally pointless. Someone recommended the Tele Vue Dioptrx. I compared my prescription to their options and decided the strongest (3.5) correction was probably best. I'm amazed at how well it works!

      5.0 Super crisp pinpoint stars

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I called TV support about my concerns regarding my new TV31 Nagler, all stars were elongated - not pinpoint like my higher power EPs (5-17mm) I thought something was wrong with my new $650 Nagler - VERY dissapointed to say the least! TV explained & said it was likely my age (58) & my astigmatism, not the optics the issue is typical & common at my age. TV suggested a matching power Dioptrix that equalled my cylinder correction prescription. I called my optometrist, I needed +4.25 diopter correction (Dioptrix does not go that high - only to +3.5). I was a little hesitant at first, not sure if it was going to match my correction requirements and make it worse - or - would it eat into my 82-degree wide view on the Nagler-31 with it's high sides. To my amazement, it took 2 min to install, quick focus & a small twist to fine adjust - absolutely crisp pinpoint stars! It is fantastic and I don't need my glasses! I now own 3 of these, they don't do a thing for me on High power EPs below 10mm, but on my lower power wide angles such as 17-Delos and 31-Nagler I am simply spoiled! If you have a similar situation with astigmatism and use TV EPs (check their site- they list what is compatible, I don't believe they fit other Mfgs EPs), get one and you'll love it.

      5.0 Dioptrx simply works

      Pros:

      Quality Lenses,Easy to Use

      Cons:

      Comments:

TeleVue Dioptrx continue to impress with their ease of use and stunning optical clarity. Superior to wearing eye glasses. Affix to appropriate long eye relief TeleVue eyepiece to acquire immediate full correction for your astigmatism in the dominant observing eye.

Televue Dioptrx also fit very well (not 100% perfect) onto Fujinon FMT-SX Polaris series binoculars. One need only peel off the rubber eyecup from the aluminum (glued) eyepiece of the binocular and attached the Dioptrx as you normally would to a TeleVue eyepiece. This sounds destructive of the binocular but is not - the rubber eyecup fits onto the aluminum by means of a groove and is assisted in maintaining position with a small amount of adhesive. Reattaching the rubber eyecup to the binocular without adhesive works fine too, just that one can pull off the eyecup easier than before, so adding some adhesive to firmly attach it permanently again may be in order.

The Dioptrx fits firmly and grips the binocular aluminum eyepiece rim, using the rubber gasket inside the Dioptrx, pressing into that groove the Fujinon rubber eyecup used . It works and works well, though be advised the binocular is not designed for the express purpose of accepting Dioptrx. I especially recommended Dioptrx for the 7x50 Fujinon FMT-SX. Not so great on the 10X50 FMT-SX due to near 70 degree AFOV eyepiece Vs 50 degree on the 7X50 series. The ability to use Dioptrx on Fujinon Polaris series binoculars was alluded to briefly on Cloudynights binocular forums some years back...
