Tele Vue Nagler Type 2 16mm
Pros:1.25"/2" skirt, smallest of the type 2s, works great on a slow scope.
Cons:Discontinued & hard to find, small eyerelief, expensive
Comments:This eyepiece, along with both the 12mm and the 20mm, are all that represent the type 2 Naglers. Now with this purchase, I have completed this set. However, all were plagued with very little eye relief but are still being collected as early top quality Naglers.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
In testing this 16mm in my 8" f/10 SCT I found that the eye relief is somewhat short. I estimate it to be about 10mm to 12mm, but since I don't use glasses to view, that was not a real problem. If you wear eyeglasses the Radian line of EPs with their 20mm eye relief may be your way to go.
I found contrast as well as sharpness to be excellent. There was no kidney beaning at all, although there was some slight ghosting in viewing the moon. It was not enough to be a problem, but enough nonetheless to be noted here. Clusters like M13 and M5 were perfect with pinpoint stars and a nice dark background. Views were just what one needs without spending $250 to $275 on a new one when you can find one on the used market.
This is the smallest of the three Type 2 Naglers. But that is relative, as they are all very big and in some small scopes a weight problem might exist. Also it has the 1.25"/2" skirt so you can use this EP in a 1.25" or 2" diagonal. I like this eyepiece as with most of the Televue line of EPs.Sort by
