TMB Super Monocentric 6mm
Pros:Sharpest planetary and double star views, very dark background
Cons:Expensive, narrow FOV
Comments:I had an opportunity to use this rather different eyepiece in my 8" f/10 SCT the other night and I was quite impressed. This eyepiece has a very small field of view - 30 degrees. But what an excellent 30 degrees it is! Planetary views, Saturn was viewed this night, was just wonderful. The Cassini division was very clear and sharp. For its purpose as a planetary and double star eyepiece, this "little guy" delivers.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
In my opinion this eyepiece is designed to provide the sharpest, most contrasty, brightest on-axis views - period. It does that job 100%. Talk about dark backgrounds and sharp images - I was very impressed. At $200 each when you can find one for sale and a smallest FOV around, it has to deliver and it does. For a beginner, I'd stay away from this eyepiece until you have become more experienced in different kinds and uses of eyepieces. But for its purpose this is an extraordinarily wonderful eyepiece. This is a 1.25", 3-element eyepiece.Sort by
