      4.0 Zhumell 20x80 Super Giant Astronomical Binoculars

      Pros:

      BaK4 prisms for excellent light transmission, large 80mm objectives.

      Cons:

      Not waterproof

      Comments:

      I just received my Zhumell 20x80 Super Giant Binoculars about a week ago, and prior to receiving these, I had been doing astonomical observing with a pair of 15x50 Bushnell binoculars. The first big difference you note when moving to the Zhumell Super Giants is just how much more light they capture! Where in the past I would gaze at the dusty and gaseous Orion Nebula without really great detail through binoculars, now I see much more clarity and visual detail. And while I have used the tripod mount for my other binoculars, this integrated center tripod mount works much better.

      Many of the other comparable high-power binoculars may have excellent optics, but they can also - quite literally - be a pain in the neck. The Zhumell 20x80 SuperGiants, though, weigh in at just 4.4 pounds, light enough to use comfortably in the field and hold them for short periods, and often just rest them against the rail of my deck without even using the tripod mount. The tripod mount works great just in case you don't feel like holding onto your binoculars all the time.

      From the Zhumell website they claim that high-performance features include:
      Extra-large field of view with crystal clarity from edge to edge;
      Ultra-smooth center focus, allowing you to pinpoint your subject;
      Right diopter adjustment so you can fine-tune your viewing.

      But what is most impressive, though, is the sheer size of the 20x80 SuperGiants. The 80mm objective lens diameters are huge - it is like having two small 80mm telescopes lashed together with a binoviewer. There may be some other comparable sized binoculars available, but I doubt you will find any comparable sized quality binoculars in the Zhumell's price range.

      Now that I have the Zhumell Super Giants, it is doubtful that I will ever want to use anything less for astronomical viewing. And while some optics purists may insist on the premium German or Japanese optics, optics like these produced in China have come a long way and provide an excellent value for those (like myself) with a limited budget.
